Khao San rd is the home of the backpackers and some of the hottest nightclubs are located in this area they close down the street at night and turn it into a carnival, with swirling masses of 3rd generation hippies from all over the world buying CD’s and t-shirts getting a tattoo or hair extensions. Part of the fun is the street food a smorgasbord of Asian fare featuring pad Thai, fresh fruits and sweet banana pancakes, sorry no snake blood tonight! The nightclubs and small hot and mobbed every night, with cheap drinks and thumping music from all over the world.
Suhkumvitt has for bookends Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy in between you have 15 blocks of craziness with night markets lining the street, Hundreds of go-go bars and discos on either end. From the luxury hotels to cheap guesthouses you get a real mix of buzzing humanity and they all have one thing on their mind at night and it isn’t the price of t-shirts or fake Rolexes.
2 coffee shops are the scene to be seen at “the Therme” and Grace Hotel are going to be just a little bit different from your local Starbucks, as very few people if any are ordering coffee as everybody is digging on everybody else and lots of people finding ad hoc dates that become very close friendships by dawn’s early light which is the perfect time to end another day on the wild side of Bangkok.
