Tips for planning a trip through Europe

Travel tips: Europe:

Buy a Eurail pass before leavinguse it wisely. If you notice, the passes count days of travel, not trips. You can arrive at the city of your destination, check into a hotel, then take a day trip to the next town over and be backif you fit it all into the same 24-hour period it counts as one day of travel and you’ve seen a free city on the side.

Travel by train at nightyou save yourself a night in a hotel.

Travel with a buddyif you’re staying in youth hostels, you can take turns in the shower and watch each other’s stuff while you shower. I’ve not had anything stolen in Europe, but a roommate did, and a friend lost half her “wardrobe” (mostly t-shirts) in Bangkok.

Travel light. You can throw away clothes to make room for new stuff, so don’t take too much crap. If you’re using a travel guide, cut out the pages that correspond to places you’ve already been and throw them away.

Pack snacks. Buy them along the way, but as you move on to a new city, it may take a while to find good eats, and it’s easier (often faster and cheaper too) if you brought something with you from the last place.

This will seem obvious, but I knew 2 girls who lost everything because they went to sleep on a train in China with all their money and passports hanging around their necklots of lessons to be taken from this one. Divide your cash into a couple of places. Wear your neck pouch inside your clothesto the side or against your back will work if you’re a top-heavy girl).

Enjoy.
